First A and R Showcase of 2012 kicks off!February 3, 2012

Valleyarm’s first showcase of 2012 kicked off with a night of cross genre music debauchery at a packed Vineyard last Friday moving genre’s quicker than we drive through the western suburbs.

Melbourne has always been a beacon for live music and it certainly lived up to that when The Magic Bones rocked up the tiny vineyard stage.

To say they blew us away was an understatement; I really should have been sitting down for this one. Nearly pitch perfect vocal harmonies were infused with huge guitars, the stage interplay between band members kept everyone guessing at what was coming next. This band effortlessly takes us back to circa 1968.

Next up, Secondhand Heart. Get around these guys, Secondhand Heart are the real deal, a mix of alternative folk and pop sensibility. Singer Jess Carroll’s voice is potent yet subtle, and the musicianship from all band members is something that gripped everyone’s attention. The crowd previously outside, franticly stubbed out their cigarettes and rushed inside to find out what all the fuss was about.

And then, just when you thought it couldn’t get any sweatier or better, Poco La Pax take to a stage cluttered with band members, laptops and even a trombone, this band never gets boring. What it lacks in chaotic spontaneity it more than makes up with perfect dance numbers, the crowd was literally going mental for this band. The stage turns into a dance-floor, beer’s and backpackers flying everywhere, the whole place went bananas. Do yourself a favor and get amongst these guys.
