Kasey Chambers wins top prize at ISCMay 20, 2011
Kasey Chambers has won three awards in the International Songwriting Competition 2011, including the grand prize for her song Beautiful Mess. She also claimed first place in the Americana category with her song Devil On Your Back, as well as second place in the performance category with Little Bird. Chambers single beat 15,000 entrants from 115 different countries to take the main prize.
Kasey Chambers is one of Australia’s most loved and accomplished singer-songwriters. A winner of countless ARIA, APRA and CMMA awards, she has toured with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and played a host of notable international festivals. Her albums have achieved multi-platinum sales and chart success and her career continues to grow.
The International Songwriting Competition is an annual song contest whose mission is to provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional, international arena. Judges for the competition include such namesakes as Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, Robert Smith, Black Francis and Jerry Lee Lewis. Other Australian acts that were nominated for the ISC include Basement Birds, Paul Dempsey, Megan Washington, Kimbra and Glenn Richards.
