Featured Artists – Absolute Japanese CompilationSeptember 23, 2011
This week our featured artists come from our next compilation release – Absolute Japanese. Released on 29th of September, it features Japanese artists from shoegaze, rock, indie, and more.
If you’ve always been fascinated and intrigued by the Japanese music scene, here’s a great introduction. We talk to two of the featured artists from the release.
American Fat Kids
How did you decide the band name “American Fat Kids”?
We put our favorite words together and made a little bit change to make sound better.
How did all of you meet?
We met in front of Libre when we were uni students.
Who/what are your influences musically?
American west coast music!
Please tell me about a gig you had the most fun at.
The gig we played when we all were sick … we were like “whatever we play what we can!” and it was the best gig!
Why do you think it’s good to be a musician?/What are some things you think that only musician can do?
We are still trying to be a big name band, but we want to concentrate only to play music, not having second job….
What is your song writing style?
We discuss about images of each song and make a story as vision. Then we make guitar and base lines and add lyrics later.
What is the difference between American Fat Kids and other bands?
Well…..we exercised with Swedish SP!
When and what timing did you decide to become a musician?
When we played Mario Cart game together, we couldn’t beat one scene, ‘ Star’. At that time we tried so hard and discussed “dreams come true”. Dreams were playing music and beating the scene, so we did!
What is your goal?
For now, to release 1st album!
Please give message to fan!
Thank you for checking out our music! We are looking forward to meeting with all of you in the future!

Broken Little Sister
How did you decide the band name “broken little sister”?
Album ‘contino sessions’ by death in vegas has a song named broken little sister. We all liked the little bit dark song.
How did all of you meet?
Shinji Horiuchi and Keiko Sakurada met through band recruiting for ex-band, and then Takeshi Kato was co-worker with Shinji at that time. That is the story of us getting together.
Who/what are your influences musically?
Each of us has different influences like psychedelic rock, folk, newwave, electoric music, 60’s music etc., however, as broken little sister, soundtrack of “Lost In Translation” and morr music compilation, “blue skied an’clear”, are the biggest inspiration.
Please tell me all discography.
November 2011 – 1st Album “memories, violet & demons” from happy prince
March 2011 – Joining on the East Japan Earthquake Support Compilation from ototoy, track “don’t be afraid”.
Please tell me about a gig you had most fun.
When listeners enjoy, we enjoy too! For particular one, we would say the gig projected by Ropes at Shimokitazawa Club Que in Tokyo in February 2011.
Why do you think it’s good to be a musician?/What are some things you think that only musician can do?
We think that write songs and play our own songs in front of people, we can remain things as “music work” which anyone can get. These are the best things.
What is your song writing style?
Shinji and Keiko make demo audio source on computer, then while we play at studios or gigs, we all brush up arrangements or balance.
What is the difference between broken little sister and other bands?
It’s a very difficult question… but we think it’s comfortable distance to music.
When and what timing did you decide to become a musician?
I didn’t really decide to become a musician at one point, but I think I have been making and playing music because I discovered fun recording at home when I was 19 years old.
Please tell me live schedule.
We haven’t decided yet, but we would love to play at gig maybe couples time this year.
What is your goal?
Make more music and play gigs in different countries, outside of Japan! We would love to meet up with other musicians and producers in the world and also we try to be flexible what we/people are interested in.
Please give message to fan!
This Absolute Japanese Compilation is by all Japanese artists and we are very interested in what kind of musicians they are apart from us. We hope all music fan listen to this Japanese compilation, not to be caught by what country you are from.
Absolute Japanese is released globally via iTunes on September 29.
