Malaysian four piece The Azenders have a mission to create something new in Malaysian music. And they’re a on their way having gained much attention from commercial radio hit Ladies and Gentleman in their hometown.
Their latest single Livin Rock & Roll, and first English track, features on the MIDEM 2012 sampler. We talk to the band about the making of single’s music video and what they have in store for 2012.
How did all of your members meet to form The Azenders?
Well, we’ve known each other before we ever planned to form a band since each and every one of us already been in in the industry with our own original band, so one day, Sam, our vocalist which is also the vocalist and music composer for the band Bunkface decided to form one band that will carry a totally different genre than his original band. That was when Sam met Izal (bassist) and they proceed with the idea and then met Kudut (Drummer) Ajam (Keys) and Ake’ (Sessionist) to form ‘The Azenders’.
How did you guys come up with the name The Azenders and is there any special meaning behind it?
Deciding a name for the band was a really difficult task out of all haha. We came out with a few names before finally found ‘The Azenders’. We made up the word ‘Azenders’ and give a meaning to it which is, ‘do what ever you want to do, what ever you love to do, be yourself and just have fun with it’.
Tell us a bit about the filming of your music video Livin Rock & Roll.
It was our first experience working with a big production to make a music video. It was thrilling but we had a real good time there. The production was really professional… all the hard work paid off once the music video was done.
Livin Rock & Roll is one of very few of your songs that was written in English. Do you plan to write more songs this way?
Actually we have a lot more English songs and a couple of Malay songs coming up real soon. We will mix both languages is one album or even maybe release a full English album for international market.
What are your plans as a band for 2012?
2011 can be described as an introduction year for The Azenders. For 2012 it’s going to be a pretty tiring year for The Azenders because once we get up we will run.
