Described as a ‘soulful guerilla hip hop’ group with Mercury Prize-winning songwriting to boot, Pataphysics have shared the stage with International and Australian acts alike, and have dominated the triple J unearthed charts – a popular platform for future superstars. 

We’re excited to help present: Guvera Launch Pad at the Prince Bandroom on the Friday the 9th of September. Each week the Prince will be interviewing those artists on the lineup, and we’re proud to share these interviews with you too, so you can get learn more about these talented and eclectic Aussie stars.

Who are you and what do you plan in the band?
I’m Pataphysics.  I write the music. Live, I’m the main vocalist and play trumpet.

How did you form?
Kinda like the fantastic four, but theres 5 of us.

What type of music do you play?
Soulful Guerilla Hip Hop.

Have you released anything/are you planning on releasing anything?
Ep and Single. Debut full Length “SUBVERSIVE’ out later this year.

Which musicians inspired you growing up?
Pubic Enemy, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Cypress Hill.

Who inspires you now?
Love Erykah Badu, 9th Wonder, D’Angelo.

What is your record of 2011 so far?
Jean Grae mixtape is pretty dope.

What is your favorite record of all time?
Too hard to say. Really like Bitches Brew Miles Davis.

Who is your favorite local band?
Super Rock and Roll Party.

What’s your favorite local venue and why?
Dig the Prince, dope sound system.  Also like Bar Open, real cozy.

What is the best gig that you’ve ever been to?
Loved seeing Erykah Badu at Good vibes.

What would be your all time dream lineup?
If my band was busy…it would be..
Ella Fitzgerald – vocals.
Robert Johnson – Guitar
John Coltrane – Tenor Saxphone
Miles davis -trumpet,
Marcus Miller – Bass
Bela Bartok – Piano
Sheila E – Drums

If you were offered to play at one festival what would it be?
Rock the Bells, also had heaps of fun playing falls a few years back.

Where do you hope to see your band in five years time?
More recording, touring Oz and overseas…. or Centrelink?

Why should people come down to the Guvera Launch Pad on the 9th September ?
Good line up. Nice way to Launch into spring.
