Birds of Tokyo nominated at WAMiApril 15, 2011
The 2011 WAMi Award nominations are in, and Valleyarm distributed artist Birds of Tokyo have been given the official nomination nod!
Nominated across five different categories, the Perth heavyweights are up for Most Popular Artist (up against Tame Impala), Most Popular Album, Best Male Vocalist, Best Instrumentalist and Best Bassist. Birds of Tokyo have become a household name in Australia, having an incredibly successful past few years. Their latest self-titled album peaked at number 2 in the Australian charts and was certified gold in its first month of release. In 2010 they were nominated for six ARIAs, winning an ARIA for Best Rock Album. In the same year, they featured in the Triple J Hottest 100 four times, as well as picking up five WAMi’s at the 2009 WAMi awards.
The WAMi Awards are presented by the West Australian Music Industry Association, and celebrate achievement in the Western Australian original contemporary music scene. Beginning in 2001, the awards bring together local music fans; and the local, national and international music industry. It is a highly esteemed award to receive, including categories such as Most Popular Live Event, Most Popular Music Website and Most Popular Music Venue. The 2011 awards see an exciting array of nominees, including Tame Impala in a number of categories, Gyroscope for Most Popular Live Act, and Jebediah for Most Popular Single/EP.
